"Unlike other laboratories at MIT, the Media Lab comprises both a degree-granting graduate Program in Media Arts and Sciences (MAS) and a highly innovative research program focused on inventing a better future through creative applications of innovative digital technologies. GRADUATE STUDIES The Program in Media Arts and Sciences (MAS) is a part of MIT’s School of Architecture + Planning. MAS offers: • A master of science degree in media arts and sciences. * A PhD degree. Students pursuing the PhD degree without a master’s in media arts and sciences are usually admitted first as MS students; continuation to the doctoral program is then conditional on performance in the MS program."
